the walrus said, to talk of many things. Of shoes and ships and sealing wax. Of cabbages and kings. Of why the sea is boiling hot, and whether pigs have wings.

Or little girls needing haircuts. (Naturally it's all connected.)

After putting it off for months and months even I finally had to admit that this adorable baby wispiness was getting a tad out of control. Here I was fooling myself that I wasn't one of those mothers who lets their child have crazy hair because I was too emotionally attached to the baby curls. Oh the hypocrisy.

One last shot before sucking it up, hiding my tears and snipping away.

And voila!

It may look like she's grimacing in this picture but that's just what she does now when I tell her to smile for the camera. Such a charmer.

I'm not convinced it isn't a work in progress, so it may evolve some more over the next few days. But I was pleased that the back still curls up a bit and she looks much more like a little girl now. I just have to be careful that I don't reenact the Marx brothers famous mustache cutting scene...

"Give him a little snoop.... Now this side is too short. It's too short. The other side is too long. Snoop him up. That's better, but the side that was too short now is too long and the side that was too long is too short. I think you got to give him one more snoop.... It can stand one more snoop in the middle, I think.... That's fine. That's very good.... That's beautiful! That's what you call a work of art. Hey, you know, I think you give him one snoop too much."
