Welcome to the biggest loser. Equine edition.

Before we begin I have to make a confession. I have never watched a single episode of NBC's "The Biggest Loser". I had never even really heard of or acknowledged the show until my mother & sister-in-law participated in a competition by that name at Fair Grove Schools. So any likeness to the actual program will most likely be purely coincidental, besides the name.

Now that we're done with that.

Meet the contestants:

Chico

Height: Roughly 14.2 hh
Color: Dapple gray
Weight: Way too much

Born in the wilds of Wyoming, Chico arrived at the Dodson Ranch as a starving, skin-and-bones, scared little yearling. Now you can hardly keep his big nose out of your jacket pockets as he scours all possible venues for horse treats.

Chico's final words: "It's just so hard to resist those apple wafers."

Wild Thing

Height: Roughly 15 hh
Color: Sorrel
Weight: A few hundred pounds too much

Wild Thing, or "Wilds" as he is affectionately called by Margaret, was born and raised on this ranch. Indisputably the long time King of the Herd, with his droopy lip and laid back attitude, Wild Thing confesses: "I get fat on air".

The Plan

Just in time for the fresh green, nutrient-rich, grass of spring we will be moving these two chunky monkeys into our newly completed (or nearly completed) stalls and severely limiting their diet as well as implementing a new fitness regime.

Stay tuned for more updates.
