Clay and I were talking the other night and realized that next month, when this baby is born, these will be our stats:

  • we will have three kids aged three and under
  • we will have been married for 54 months and I will have been pregnant for 27 of those months (right at half the time we've been married)
  • only about 6 of those months have I not been eating for (at least) two
  • I have been pregnant for three of our four anniversaries
  • so far we have had a kid on every odd numbered year (2007, 2009, 2011)
  • if we keep this up we could easily have 10-15 kids
Clay's response was: "at least you haven't been barefoot the entire time". But when we were dating he did inform me that he would like to have nineteen kids and live in a tree house. And just for the record, this was well before the Duggars were a household name. (And they don't live in a tree house.) We better hurry if we're going to keep up that goal! And we better look into building a very large tree house instead of constructing an attic addition.

These stats make me smile. And I count myself a very blessed woman. Obviously we don't know yet how big our family will be (and I highly doubt we will be one of the 10-15 kid families), but every child is such a wonderful gift and I am very grateful that our family has grown so quickly. And when people in the store remark, with raised eyebrows, that I certainly have my hands full I just smile and respond that it's a lot of fun. They are certainly well worth any trouble they may cause.

  1. I love the humor in this post. :-) I only had 3 months where I could say I had three and under. It is quite challenging to say the least, but certainly a blessing. I was joking with the MIL today if we'd started having kids when we first got married we'd have close to ten by now. I have to admit, however, that by my 4th pregnancy (we only got to meet 3 of them) I was wondering how Michelle Duggar kept it up. I was tired!

  2. I haven't figured our stats out, but I'm sure they are pretty close to yours! We just found out that our third is going to be another girl! Gonna be crazy around prom season at my house in about 15 years! 3 under 3 is going to be a challenge, but nothing we can't handle with the Lord, right? =) Blessings on your labor and delivery!

  3. Thanks for your reminder about how children are a blessing from the Lord. Sometimes I get caught up in the stress of life and my own planning, that I forget that God's plans for us always work out better than we can imagine for ourselves. I keep telling myself that I only want one or two children, but this was a great reminder for me that it's not what I want; it's what God has planned for me. Thanks for the encouraging words. :)
