When I was a wee collegiate undergrad I worked for several years in a freshwater biology lab studying zooplankton. Most often I was dissecting, IDing, and photographing Ostracodes. But my other frequent microscopic acquaintances were daphnia. Specifically, Daphnia lumholtzi.
I was rather strongly reminded of these past acquaintances when my daughter took a bath this afternoon. I found the resemblance remarkable:
