In response to Wild Thing having horrible feet Clay has been doing his research and learning the tricks to barefoot trimming. I don't know very much about farrier and hoof work but I do know that after just two trims with this method Wild Thing is taking longer strides than I have ever seen him take. Always before he was taking short little stiff steps, even on his good days. Now his legs are stretching all the way forward and he's landing on his heels. He's still quite tender on rocks and hard ground but we're hoping that with continued reshaping and healthy new growth he will feel like a new horse.
Another improvement is him standing quietly for a hoof trimming. It's amazing what a little lungeing for respect can do. He and Chico are quickly learning that it's much preferable to stand still than to have to run in circles.
